About

This program is Approved by the National Association of Social Workers (Approval # 886943331-2954) for 2.5 continuing education contact hours designed for professionals to enhance their understanding of pediatric cancer and its mental health impacts. The course covers the pediatric cancer journey, from diagnosis to survivorship, and examines the biopsychosocial effects of treatment, including PTSD, anxiety, and cognitive challenges. It addresses barriers to mental health care, cultural factors, and the critical role of social support and early intervention. Participants will learn to support children in active treatment, navigate complex end-of-life issues, and promote normalcy through developmentally appropriate activities. Additional modules focus on working with siblings, addressing "Glass Child Syndrome," and supporting caregivers to manage stress and burnout. The course concludes with a recap of key points and a self-paced quiz to solidify learning outcomes. "Introduction to Pediatric Cancer and Mental Health" is not a substitute for more intensive mental health interventions that some individuals may require. While the training aims to enhance understanding and strengthen support systems, it does not replace specialized therapy or clinical treatment. Instead, it focuses on increasing competency and awareness among participants, thereby improving overall support for those affected by childhood cancer. This program is a foundational tool to better equip individuals and communities, but continued access to professional mental health services remains essential for addressing more severe needs. The following states do not accept National CE Approval Programs: NJ, NY, WV
